Today is a new day! I love new days. They begin with a clean slate, and I get to fill it up. My life has opportunities every single day just waiting for me to give the world something new, that only I can give. Guess what? Your life has opportunities every single day too. So what are we waiting for? We have a whole new day to live and give something new to this big, beautiful world.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote that vision matters. I encouraged you to dream, to strategize, and to ask questions.
Today, I’m encouraging you to give the world something new, something that only you can give.
True Story Ahead
So, less than one hour ago, I received a phone call from my son, Zack. Of all the cars in the world, he thought he saw mine parked on the street in downtown Minneapolis. He was right. (I’m on vacation today.)
We discovered he and Courtney, his wife, were in my writer’s studio neighborhood. So, I took the opportunity to invite them to lunch. They had time, and we got a half hour to sit together and talk.
We talked about my sweet little grandson James, who I haven’t seen in three weeks for various reasons. One being I’ve been sick. But I get to see that little dude tomorrow, and I can’t wait. I’ve been told James has many new tricks to show grandma.
We also talked about Zack’s educational future, which is why they were in Minneapolis on a Friday morning. He had just met with his new advisor at the U of M.
Okay, time to brag. I’m super proud of my son. He’s continued to pursue his calling in life. He has this amazing talent of diligence and deliberate determination to find his vision and then figure out how he will give the world something new that only he can give to the world. He has passion to help others. He has this uncanny ability to understand how the mechanics of the human body work so that we humans can be fit and healthy. I admire his knowledge and passion.
He’s researched numerous educational and career paths. He’s applied to various graduate programs. He’s been incredibly intentional about strategizing his vision. He’s done all those things I encourage people to do. Vision Matters! His vision matters.
He’s also giving something new to the world. He has a dream. He has a plan, and I know he’s going to accomplish it. I’m excited watching him seize this opportunity to pursue his vision.
Dreaming Bigger
Lately, I’ve been inspired to think bigger, dream bigger, and believe great things can and will happen. So, as I ponder my own dream, my own vision, my own calling, I’m being challenged to expand my idea of what I think that will be.
Today, the idea came to me to give the world something new, something that only I can give, but it has to be something more than just new. What I choose to give new to this world must also be something better. Not all new things are necessarily better. So I asked myself, what can I give to the world that’s both new and better?
Every day I get up early to read and study the Bible, pray, and write in my journal. During this first hour of my day today, I was led to Isaiah 43:18-19.
The Lord says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Wow! There it was. Confirmation to do something new. I’m not 100% sure what that something new is going to be just yet, but I do know one thing, it’s going to be bigger than I first imagined.
Listening to my son talk about his upcoming graduate program inspired me to seize my something new too.
I’ll continue figuring what my something new is, but I don’t want to end this writing until I say one thing directly to you, my reader.
You have something new to give to this world too. Something that only you can give. Find out what that is and make sure it is something better than what used to be. You have new things just waiting to spring up. Let that happen. You may be completely amazed what God is ready to do through you. Give something new to this world and make it better than it was.

This is very appropriate. Our God is God of new things. He wants to use us to do new things in the world. I am ready for it.

Yes! I agree Elizabeth. I love that God provides new opportunities.
Excited to see what’s in store for you!
And for you too, Riley! 🙂
