Warm temperatures filled the air today. It was 60 degrees in the middle of February in Minnesota! Crazy! Crazy good! People opened windows to let the fresh air inside! Me included. But no matter how much I rolled down my car window, I still smelled spit up, a blessing in disguise.
True Story Ahead
I smell like spit up! If I turn my head facing my left arm, I get a nice strong whiff. I guess when I get home from writing, I’ll change my shirt. But right now, this smell is inspiring me.
How can the smell of spit-up be inspiring? Because this spit up came from a very special source: my special munchkin.
My grandson James is three months old now. Today I got to spend some much needed grandma time with him.
I marvel at him.
James smiles now. He really likes his puppy Scout. That puppy makes James smile. Maybe because Scout is green or plays music or says James’ name. (I bet you thought Scout was a real dog.) 🙂
I don’t really know why Scout makes James smile. It doesn’t matter. All I know is Scout makes James smile, and James’ smile makes me smile. And my heart is full of joy!
Blessed Are Those Who Smell Like Spit Up
I am very blessed. Today for lots of reasons, I was reminded just how blessed I am. But the one blessing, the one gift that is a true reward is a child.
God’s Word says, that
Children are a gift, a blessing, from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! (Psalm 127:3-5)
Children are God’s best gift to us, well, right after His gift of salvation. In my eyes, that puts children right at the top of the blessing pyramid.
When I think about all the ways my own children have blessed me, the count is limitless. They have taught me how to be unselfish, patient, enduring, and strong, which are all blessings. Patience is a virtue after all. They’ve also blessed me with laughter, love, and adventure.
Now one of the greatest blessings for me for having children is having a grandchild. Once again, I get to experience the joy of watching a sweet little one experience things in life for the first time.
That includes interacting with a green, music-playing, talking puppy, and watching James experience the joy of finding his hands and holding tightly onto my finger. (James has a fierce grip!)
It also means, I get to hold James and snuggle with him and feed him a bottle when his mommy is away. This is turn means I also get to burp him, which is what led to the spit up on my shirt today.
With each passing hour, the aroma of my time with James today is getting stronger.
Oh how blessed I am to smell like spit up for it means I have been given a great reward!
