It’s time to be true to yourself. Me too. I hope you’ll keep reading because it’s kind of fun. And I think you’ll learn a little bit more about me.
True Story Ahead
Today, I attended a workshop for technical support for my website.
While I know a lot about certain aspects of technology, I also know my limits. I know what I’m gifted doing and what I’m not gifted doing.
I know I’m not an Information Technology (IT) Guru. I am talented in learning. But even learners can’t be good at everything.
Moreover, learning something new slows down what you’re actually trying to accomplish sometimes.
For me, learning all the technical stuff behind what you’re seeing right now as you read my blog has become very time consuming. The technical stuff is actually robbing me of writing time.
Writing is what I’m supposed to be doing. Writing is what I’m called to do. I am a writer. I am NOT an IT person.
During this technology workshop, I was getting some hands-on experience and one-on-one attention from the IT facilitator. She asked me some questions about me as we were setting up some content. She asked me, “If someone were face to face with you and they succeeded, what would you say to them?”
“YAY! You did it!!!”
“Seriously, that’s what I’d say.” Then I laughed.
She smiled and said, “Then that’s what you need to write. Be who you are.”
Fast Forward to Tonight
I was all set up for writing, but as usual, I didn’t know what I was going to write about. But I knew I wouldn’t be able to concentrate until I ate something.
As I ate dinner in my writer’s studio, I surfed LinkedIn. I came across a post written by John Doherty, Founder and CEO of Credo, which is a highly successful marketing company. He shared about his journey and the importance of doing what’s in your heart to do. And then he wrote, “Be true to yourself.”
As I read his words, my conversation with the IT facilitator jumped into my head.
Right after that, I remembered a gift card I bought myself at Target last week. Yes, I did buy myself a gift card and my husband was with me, so he can verify this selfish purchase. 🙂
It’s what was the design on the gift card I valued and why I purchased it.
It’s pictured above.
That’s when I realized what I wanted to tell you today.
Be true to who you are.
Don’t try to be someone else. Don’t pretend. Don’t compare. Stand up and be you.
We weren’t made to be the same. In fact, God has fearfully and wonderfully made each one of us different on purpose.
We have different gifts. In fact, we have different measures of gifts. We have different personalities. We have different likes and dislikes. We’re so different no one will ever be you.
The kind and helpful IT facilitator is right. I need to be me. I need to sound like me when I write.
So, as I continue to make tweaks and updates to my blog and Facebook page and anything else I write, you can be sure Michelle is going to be true to who she is because I need to be true to who God made me to be. And I think I’ll let the IT gurus help me with the technical stuff because that’s what they are good at and that’s letting them be true to who they are. Win-win for everyone!
YAY!
I’ll also keep saying, “YAY!”
In fact, you can absolutely count on it from me because that’s also being true to being me.
But, hey, that doesn’t mean you have to say “Yay!” Maybe your way of showing excitement is completely different. That’s cool. Just be true to yourself. Be you. Don’t try to be someone else.
All of these stories today make me realize that when God tells us that we are to love Him with all our heart, all our mind, and all our strength, I think He also wants us to do that with all our own unique gifts, talents, and personality.
God made you to be you.
He made me to be me.
I believe God loves it when we’re true to ourselves because that means we’re being true to who He made us to be.
Let’s celebrate that. Shall we?
I think I shall.
YAY!!!
[callout]’And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength’ (Mark 12:30, NLT).[/callout]

Michelle, keep writing! Keep yay-ing! 🙂 I just love this. Your writing is a hug. Thank you. (Oh, and I’m a tad jealous about your IT help! Who are you working with?)
