Did you know that a chemical reaction is needed to produce light? Chemical reactions are required for each one of us to live in the light. I don’t know about you, but I actually like light. I have a special announcement today, so I hope you’ll read my post.
Okay, I’m not a chemist so this is not going to be a major chemistry lesson, but I want you to understand a basic scientific fact. To get light, a chemical reaction is necessary.
According to Britannica, “a chemical reaction is a process in which one or more substances, the reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, the products. Substances are either chemical elements or compounds. A chemical reaction rearranges the constituent atoms of the reactants to create different substances as products.”
True Story Ahead
Like many of you, I’ve been listening to Christmas music. I’ve mostly been listening to Rend Collective’s Campfire Christmas Volume I. Rend Collective has become my favorite Christian band over the last couple of years.
Their lyrics speak to my spirit and soul in such a way that cause me to either be filled with joy or bring me to tears of repentance and gratitude.
I wish I were a poetic wordsmith like Rend Collective. They put into words what my soul and spirit personally experience with Jesus.
Here’s a verse from one of my favorite songs called “Shining Light”
We made a connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light
I’ve never thought in terms of a chemical reaction taking place inside of me when I connect with Jesus Himself until I listened to this song. Intrigued by this concept, today I looked up the definition of chemical reaction.
Interestingly, there’s an amazing correlation between chemical reaction and Jesus entering our lives.
Just like a physical chemical reaction that produces light needs energy from more than one element, an energy is needed to trigger the light generation process in our souls and spirits too. That energy source is Jesus Himself. Without Jesus, we have no possible way to have light in us.
We need a full on chemical reaction with Jesus Himself to bring us out of the dark and into the light. We need to connect directly with Jesus. When we do, a full on chemical reaction rearranges our soul and spirit and creates a different person as a result.
Jesus Himself is the “substance” that when mixed with our heart will illuminate our life and turn our darkness into light.
Nevertheless
At the beginning of this year, a colleague and I did daily devotions together. Every morning she’d read a devotion out loud to me.
It was probably the first or second week of January when we were introduced to the word: Nevertheless.
“Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever” (Isaiah 9:1 NLT).
This word had such a positive impact on me, I decided that Nevertheless was going to be my word of the year. I wrote it on a post-it note and stuck it on my computer monitor so that I’d see it many times throughout the day. It’s still on my monitor.
Nevertheless is an adverb that to me means something’s about to change and that something is a positive change.
Today, I read a different devotion, and I was brought back to Isaiah 9. And that’s when I saw my word again: Nevertheless.
“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.”
I kept reading, and I’m so glad I did.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light, on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned” (Isaiah 9:2, NIV).
Yes! A Light has dawned and His name is Jesus. He came into this world to connect with us and bring light into our very souls and spirits. He intended a chemical reaction for each one of us, but we have to connect to His source to be able to start the light generation process.
Some of us may be in distress. Some of us may be experiencing gloom. Some of our souls are walking in darkness. And for some of us the shadow of death may be hovering around us, NEVERTHELESS, a Light has dawned.
Whatever situation we’re in, I want to encourage us to find our “Nevertheless” because that’s where the Light is.
Advent Season
We’re about to officially start the Advent season tomorrow, Sunday, December 3.
Advent is the name of the season in which Christians prepare for the celebration that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Advent ends on Christmas Day.
I’m being called to write a daily blog post during Advent, just like I did during Lent.
So, I’ll be writing every day about my Shining Light, Jesus.
Please join me daily starting tomorrow for Advent Insights: Who is Jesus to Me?
My prayer for all of us is that we will have a chemical reaction with Jesus Himself this season.
May Jesus become your Shining Light too.
