On this day 25 years ago, I delivered my first-born daughter. I remember like it was yesterday. One of the most beautiful experiences of her birth was when my doctor let me assist in bringing her all the way out into this world. My daughter was only half-way born when my doctor asked me if I wanted to assist him delivering her the rest of the way. I thought he was kidding, but he was completely serious.
I said “Yes!” as enthusiastically as one can after being awake for more than 24 hours in pain and labor. So he instructed me to sit up just a bit and outstretch my arms. Then he placed my baby into my hands. My hands firmly held her under her arms. With one last labor pain, he gave one last instruction, “Pull!” With a firm grip on my baby, I gently pulled and in a split second, she was delivered into my hands. We finally met face-to-face. All covered in gunk and absolutely beautiful, she looked at me. She began to cry. I cried too. What a journey we’d been on together.
I think Jesus experiences our delivery like that. When He delivers us, I think He cries too because we’ve been on the journey together. He knows the pain. He knows the labor. He knows what it takes to be delivered.
Jesus is The Deliverer.
Delivery is setting one free. It’s a sweet, tender experience that leaves you crying with relief, gratefulness, and joy.
Today, I want you to know that Jesus is The Deliverer.
There are hundreds of Bible verses about deliverance.
I especially notice those that say, “The Lord delivered me into your hands.”
After experiencing my daughter’s delivery, I really understand what this means.
The journey to deliverance, however, is filled with pain and labor. It can take a lot longer than we expect, too, but we can absolutely know that Jesus will deliver us.
“Do I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery?” says the LORD. (Isaiah 66:9a)
The answer is “No” by the way.
Jesus is The Deliverer.
My heart cries out for deliverance so many times. When I’ve been in trouble, I call on Jesus. He hears me. He promises to deliver me.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17).
“Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (Psalm 50:15).
Jesus delivers us from so many things:
- Evil one (Matthew 6:13)
- Our enemies (Psalm 31:15)
- Death (Psalm 33:19)
- Attacks of people (Psalm 18:43)
- Fears (Psalm 34:4)
- All our troubles (Psalm 34:17)
My sweet baby was set free after nine months in my womb. But her delivery day came on December 13.
What are you needing deliverance from? Cry out to Jesus The Deliverer. He’ll hear you and He promises to deliver you. It may take longer than you expect. It will include pain and labor, but I can guarantee, when deliverance comes, there will be relief, gratefulness, joy and probably a few tears.
May this Advent season you experience the promise of deliverance from Jesus The Deliverer.
Thanks be to God, who delivers us through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:25).
