I’m going through the process of becoming a Certified Gallup Strengths Coach. This process includes learning a lot about all 34 themes of talent. Today, I was reviewing some things about the Relator theme. You know what? Jesus is a Relator!
Relators have this amazing ability to form deep, enriching, solid relationships with others. They’re exceptional at building relationships that are close, caring, and trusting. Because of this, their relationships are mutually rewarding.
One of the requirements of Relators is they need time and opportunities for one-on-one interactions.
That sounds exactly like Jesus.
When Jesus walked the earth, He initiated one-on-one conversations with others all the time. In fact, He personally asked 12 men to drop everything and join Him in a relationship. He wanted them to be His disciples (Matthew 4, John 1).
They traveled everywhere together. They walked. They went on boat rides. They ate together. They prayed together. Jesus invested time getting to know each disciple. For three years Jesus spent time with these men. They got to know Him really well too.
Jesus also spent time with women, children, the sick, the lame, the poor, the rich, lawmakers, and lawbreakers. He was constantly getting to know more about others by spending time with them. The Gospels are full of stories about Jesus relating to people and building relationships.
His whole purpose in coming from heaven to earth was all about the love He has for His people. He loves us so much and He wants to relate so much to us that He suffered and died for our sins so that we can spend eternity with Him (Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 19).
Jesus is a Relator!
He wants to spend time with you too. He wants to draw near to you.
Have you spent much one-on-one time with Him lately?
God says if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us (James 4:8). He loves spending time with us.
I’ve written before about the time I spend with Jesus each day. I get up early just so that I can meet with Him before everything else demands my time. Because I’ve been intentional about carving out one-on-one time with Him, I’ve gotten to know Jesus so much better.
I’ve been thinking about human relationships. People we love the most we make sure we spend time with regularly. We want to spend time with them. We want to get to know them more.
Have you ever thought about doing that with Jesus?
Building a relationship with Jesus is going to require some one-on-one conversations, and we have to make opportunities for that to happen, just like we do with humans.
My hope for you this Advent season is that you will intentionally make time for a daily one-on-one deep conversation with Jesus. He’s ready for this interaction. He longs to spend time with you, just you.
Jesus is a Relator!
