I’ve been checking the weather forecast regularly this week as I’m going to be traveling Friday through Monday. The forecast calls for a major snowstorm. NOOOOO! I’m so tired of winter. I’m tired of the cold temperatures. I’m tired of snow. Winter has decided to linger this year. It’s supposed to be Spring! The earth is supposed to be coming alive with green and flower blossoms. Wah! Wah! Wah!
Like most others who live in the Midwest, I too, have been complaining about winter’s long stay. Almost every person I’ve talked with this week has complained about the weather. This morning as I once again checked the weather forecast, fingers crossed, that the snowstorm had diminished, I found myself complaining…again!
Then, I sat down for my time with God. And guess what He showed me? Do everything without complaining. This is the day the Lord has made. God Himself is the author everything…even the weather. Stop complaining. God has determined the earth needs moisture, and He has determined snow is the form He is going to use to water the trees, grass and future flowers. Stop complaining. Instead rejoice. There is much to be grateful for, but complaining blinds us.
Convicted of my sin, I confessed to God. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for complaining about snow, winter, ice, and cold temperatures. Please forgive me.” As soon as I confessed, I immediately began rejoicing. This is the day the Lord has made. It is a good day. My heart was lifted. My soul rejoiced that God is author of my day. Today is a good day to not complain, but instead rejoice, especially with His provision of moisture for the soon to come green grass, blooming flowers, and budding trees. Rejoice for the snow. Yes, rejoice for the beautiful, white, glistening snow that will be covering the landscape this weekend.
Scripture:
Philippians 2:14 – “Do everything without complaining and arguing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
