Prayer is essential. There are 650 prayers listed in the Bible, 450 recorded answered prayers, and Paul mentions prayer 41 times. And it’s recorded that Jesus Himself prayed 25 different times. Okay, I didn’t seriously look up all these verses this morning. Thanks to Joe Carter, an editor for the The Gospel Coalition, I was able to quickly find these stats.
What I know is that as I’ve studied God’s Word over the years, I’ve personally noticed the numerous times we are instructed to pray. In fact this morning as I read again in 1 Timothy I kept being drawn back to 1 Timothy 2:1.
I stopped reading God’s Word and started doing God’s instruction to me. I prayed. I prayed for as many people as came into my mind. I asked God to help them. I interceded (asked on their behalf) for them, and I gave thanks for the people I prayed for.
Something powerful happens to our own heart when we pray for others. This morning I received peace, strength, confidence, and joy. I firmly believe God heard every one of my prayers, and I trust He will answer all of them in His perfect timing. Now, I have this amazing joy that has filled my heart. I just think that is the most wonderful reward from God.
Friends, now I urge you to pray for all people. Ask God to help the people in your life, those He puts on your heart to pray for. Remember, thank God for these people. The wonderful people He has placed in your life. Yes, even “that” person who challenges you. Thank God for him or her.
May your hearts be filled with joy today too.
Scripture:
1 Timothy 2:1 – “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.”
