When we have little to offer, it can feel discouraging, frustrating, and hopeless. Today I was reminded that having little really can be lots.
Spending time with Jesus every morning, I’m learning some big and little things about Him, His ways, and myself. For the last month I’ve been drawn back numerous times to the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. This story is found in all four Gospels: Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9, and John 6.
There seems to be limitless lessons in this story alone, but one that keeps popping up for me is when we have little to offer others that doesn’t mean we are limited.
Jesus can multiply whatever amount we have to offer Him and satisfy the needs of many.
On this particular day in the disciples’ lives and Jesus’ life on earth, there were thousands, I mean, thousands of people who came to listen to Jesus. At the end of the day, there was a problem: not enough food to feed barely a handful of people. Now what?
Little food = big problem, or does it?
The disciples discovered a young boy who had five barley loaves of bread and two fish, and they brought this meager amount to Jesus.
In their little amount, Jesus offered it up to heaven, asked a blessing, gave thanks, and then He broke the bread. He then had the twelve disciples distribute the food to the great multitude of gathered people. I’m sure this crowd was starving too. Guess what? Jesus provided enough for every person and they were filled up.
Today, I was reminded in my own meager offering to Jesus that no matter the little amount I have to offer, if I bring it Jesus, He can multiply it to lots.
Don’t underestimate what you have as not enough. When we bring our offering, whatever it is, to Jesus, He is able to multiply. My little becomes lots when given to Jesus.
Today, may we each offer up to Jesus what we have to give, and let Him bless the needs of those around us until they are satisfied.
