Sometimes I get discouraged. I get weighed down by the immensity of the world’s battles. Bringing it in personally, the battles of my own life can seem endless at times. We try and try to fight our battles. I’m learning not all battles are mine to fight. Some are the Lord’s battle to fight.
I’ve read 2 Chronicles 20 a couple of times this month. I was brought back to this chapter again this morning. I know why. I woke discouraged today.
There’s a battle I’ve been trying to fight, well, actually there are a few, but one in particular has had me on my knees more than once. While I can’t share what it is, I believe God wanted to let me know again today, this battle, it’s not mine to fight. It’s His battle to fight.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat finds out that a huge army is coming to fight him. More than a little alarmed, he decides this is one of those times that he needs some help from God. So he proclaims a fast and not just for himself, but for everyone. People came from every town to gather together and present their case to the Lord.
After King Jehoshaphat prays out loud for all to hear, the Spirit of Lord brought His message:
“Listen…Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
How many times do we think it’s our battle to fight when in reality, it’s not ours, it’s God’s battle? Too many times, I think.
In verse 17, the Bible says,
“You will not have to fight this battle.”
I love this!
This morning, my discouragement disappeared as soon as I read these words. I realized God was telling me not all battles are mine to fight and this particular issue I’m referring to is one of those. Praise Jesus!
I can be assured that this battle is in good, strong, capable hands.
Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes we are required to fight the battle, but let’s remember to be like King Jehoshaphat. If we are getting alarmed about something, let’s fast and pray. Present our case to the Lord. We may find out, God’s got it all under control.
We won’t have to fight every battle. Some battles are the Lord’s only.
Do not be afraid. Do not discouraged. Lift up your eyes to the Lord today and rest in the truth that the battle is the Lord’s.
Scripture:
2 Chronicles 20:15 – He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’”

This is great! I needed to hear this today.

Me too, Deanna. Thanks for sharing. I’m praying for you. And we know the Lord is watching you. He will strengthen you. “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
