Apparently I struggle learning some things, so God has to keep reviewing certain lessons. I’m thankful He’s a patient teacher. Today, once again, I sat in His classroom and He reviewed both multiplication and economics. Now if you know me at all, you know these two subjects would rank right up there in my life as BORING! I promise, though, today’s lesson was anything but boring.
True Story Ahead
Jesus reviewed both how multiplication works and how the law of supply and demand works when it comes to our needs.
I’ve written about both of these lessons before.
Multiplication
When we have little, God can multiply.
Today, I read Matthew 16:5-12. Jesus was with His disciples and He warned them about the multiplication of yeast. Yeast grows fast. But, friends, this was not my lesson today. My lesson came from verse 9-10 when Jesus asked them if they remembered how He multiplied the five loaves of bread and fed 5,000 and when He multiplied seven loaves of bread to feed 4,000.
And Jesus didn’t just take the little amount of bread they had, those few loaves and feed thousands for one meal. He also multiplied those loaves to have leftovers!
How does He do that?
I don’t know how He does that, but I know He does.
This morning as I was talking with Him and trying to figure out a better writing strategy (I need more time to write), He reminded me He can multiply even time.
Not sure how He’s going to do that, but I believe Him. I have a gut stirring it may have something to do with sacrifice and sleep. I’ll keep you posted.
Economics
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:19
What I love about this amazing promise is God doesn’t skimp. He doesn’t meet just some or a couple of our needs, but ALL of our needs.
In economics, there is the law of supply and demand. While I’m no economist, I do understand the relationship of supply and demand in a fundamental way.
Demand is how much of product or service we desire or need. Whereas supply represents how much the market can offer.
Here’s what I was so gently reminded of this morning: no matter how many or what kinds of needs I have, God is the market who supplies. And not just for a couple of my demanding needs but all of them.
You see, God’s market is overflowing. He has storehouses that we don’t even realize. The Bible has a number of Scripture that reference His storehouses. I encourage you to do a quick search on the word “storehouse” and see what you find.
This morning, I actually listed some of my needs out loud to Him. Many of these used to be wants, but now they’ve become needs, such as a new home computer, new carpet, and more energy to sustain me throughout the day. I have a long list, none of which I can financially afford or figure out exactly how to do right now.
I had no more than talked out loud to God with my need list when my eyes scanned my desk and stopped to look at a little stone a friend Nikki gave me. I hadn’t really noticed it in a while, but all of a sudden my eyes fixated on this stone. The message was loud and clear. It’s pictured above.
My God will supply all your needs!
The beauty of God’s Word is that it’s true. I believe it’s true. If it’s true, we can be sure He will meet the demands of our needs.
Again, I don’t know how He’s going to do this, but I know He will.
Friends, today, let’s bring our list of needs to God Himself. Let’s choose to believe He can and He will supply from His storehouses for all of our needs. The law of supply and demand is as real in heaven as it is in economics on earth.
Prayer for Multiplication and Economics
Lord Jesus, we have needs. Each one of us has needs. Some we know of, some we don’t. But one thing is true, You are the supplier of our needs. If you can multiply a few loaves of bread to feed thousands and have leftovers, you can multiply whatever we need too. The Bible says that You have storehouses in heaven. Your Word says You will, not might, but will supply all our needs. We choose to believe this today. You are a gracious and gloriously rich God who loves His children. May we please you today, trust You to supply for all of our needs, and may we wait patiently for Your answers and provisions. In Your Name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
