Day 5 of 21-Day Sugar Fast
Do you need a revival in your soul? Let the wind blow. When the wind blows, we know there is activity. The Holy Spirit is like the wind. When the Holy Spirit blows into our lives, something is going to change.
“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:2-4 (NIV)
Suddenly, the wind blew rattling windows and shaking my vehicle as I drove home from babysitting two of grandchildren. I had no idea how windy it had become on Friday, Day 5 of my 21-Day Sugar Fast.
The wind in Minnesota acted like it was in a rock and roll concert. Rumbling through buildings, trees, and everywhere. We could feel it, hear it, and see the result of its mighty force. Hairspray had no hold on Friday.
That wind shook everything. The wind blew and shook loose leaves on many trees. In fact, the huge, towering tree in our neighbor’s backyard that stood glowing golden on Thursday, was stripped bare by Friday evening. The wind loosened every single leaf that tree was holding onto.
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So, it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8 (NIV)
When the Holy Spirit comes in sometimes He’s like a whirlwind shaking loose that which needs to fall from us. Something is about to change for us too.
Let the Wind Blow
When God enters in and refreshes us something has to go. What are you holding onto that you need to let go of? God has something new He wants to replace it with.
“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’” Revelation 21:5 (ESV)
Just like old colorful leaves, as beautiful as they are, need to fall each autumn so that new leaves can bud and grow in the spring, so it is with us. We need to loosen our grip. We need to let go of the old, too, so that the new can grow in us.
May the Holy Spirit blow away the old, refresh you, and grow something new in you. Let Him revive you!
Prayer for Today
Holy Spirit, let the wind blow. Shake loose in us what needs to be let go. Help us to let go of the old so the new can be born. Grow in us new things, Lord.
Refresh us Lord. Shake us. Loosen our grip. Prepare us for the new things coming. You are a God of new. Not one thing we firmly hold onto should be more important than letting you have your way with us.
Let the wind blow. Strip away the old, just like the autumn leaves, so that we can truly see what’s underneath.
Refresh us. Revive us. Reveal Yourself in our lives. Let your wind blow, Lord.So that Your glory will glow forever in us.
Holy Spirit, let the Your wind blow in our lives.
In Jesus name, Amen.

Love the visual of fall leaves and “letting go.”
“Let the wind blow. Strip away the old, just like the autumn leaves, so that we can truly see what’s underneath.”
Thanks for this reminder!

Hi Shaune!!! So lovely to hear from you. 🙂
Thank you for reading my blog post. I’m so grateful the Lord blessed you with this reminder: let the wind blow!
He’s been blowing some strong winds in my life. Shaking all sorts of things loose, and I’m having to loosen my grip. Still, I want Him to lead and that’s what He’s doing during this sugar fast.
Miss seeing your smile daily and receiving all our fun notes plastered in my office. I truly, truly miss that and you. But I have the wooden JOY placed in a special spot in my writing room so I see it daily and often. 🙂 Thanks for making that for me.
