Day 10 of 21-Day Sugar Fast
Do you want freedom? I found the road to freedom: God Himself. Now, I’m going to write about it! I’ve climbed the mountain to freedom and now Jesus is calling me to go back the way I came and find others who want to travel this road of freedom with me, up the mountain to victory.
Just like Elijah went back the way he came from in 1 Kings 19, that’s what God is calling me to do.
God’s Promise
It all started when God revealed Himself to me in 1 Peter 5:10. I experienced an encounter with God Himself, and my life forever changed.
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV)
Friend, this encounter and promise is where my mountain-climbing journey to freedom began.
Have you ever sacrificed so much of yourself, you get exhausted and feel like you’ve lost who you are?
When we sacrifice parts of ourselves to please others, whoever the others are, it may work for a while, but in the long run, we lose ourselves and get exhausted.
Jesus doesn’t want us sacrificing to please anyone but Him. We can share ourselves with others, but we should not sacrifice ourselves, or even parts of ourselves, to or for others.
We have one God we are to worship. And this God created us to be who He created us to be. When we lose sight of Him and ourselves, we get both exhausted and lost. Just like Elijah became exhausted and said, “I have had enough, LORD,” (1 Kings 19:4) I had too. I was lost and exhausted.
Now, I know there are many who want freedom. Freedom from various things. But we can’t have freedom without Jesus. Where He is, there is freedom.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
If you want real freedom, I know how to find it. I’ve walked the road.
I Found the Road to Freedom: God Himself
Friends, there is freedom. In Jesus Christ, there is freedom. When we travel with Him, He will illuminate more of who He is, more of who we ourselves are, and more of our calling. And we will find the freedom we are desiring.
I found the road to freedom because Jesus Himself illuminated it to me. Little by little over a decade He led me and I followed. Climbing a mountain is not easy. I’m not going to lie, but it is doable when you have the right guide: Jesus Himself, the One who has walked the path before.
This, my friend, is what Jesus is calling me to write about. He has an intense passion for bringing freedom to people. But this means we need to obey, be brave, and follow Him. Even when the terrain is dangerous. Even when we are hurting. Even when…
I am one of Jesus’ guides now. My book’s purpose will be to take you on my journey with God Himself and show you who He is, what He does, and how my relationship with Jesus changed me and freed me. My hope is that the same will happen for you because His promise in 1 Peter 5:10 is for you too.
Walking in Freedom
Today, on Day 10, Jesus ignited the passion in me once again to write and not just about anything, but write to encourage you to get know the God who died for you, the God who loves you, the God who knows you better than anyone else because He created you.
The calling He’s put on my life means sacrifice for and service to God Himself and then to share with and serve others. Because He Himself helped me find freedom, He’s calling me to help others walk this illuminated path too. He’s called me to train and lead now.
Scary? A little. But after all these years, I know I can trust Him. I know He keeps His promises.
Freedom comes from obedience to Jesus and surrender to Him to bring Him glory, not others. When we walk with Him, surrendering to Him and His ways, we are freed. When we are surrendered to Jesus, this is where we can serve from who we truly are, not from sacrificing parts of ourselves.
We’ve been called to be free. Walking in the freedom requires walking with Jesus.
Our freedom is meant to serve God and others. We are freed so that we can help set others free.
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
Jesus revealed Himself to me. He also revealed who I am. I found my life again because I found the road to freedom: God Himself.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 (NIV)
Follow Me
One day, I know my book will be completed. In the meantime, I will continue sharing with the others who Jesus is and what He’s done for all. I hope you’ll continue to follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.
