Inspirations come daily if we look for them. Today, I am inspired by sparks for Jesus and how they impact His world and His people. But how do we be a spark for Jesus?
A wonderful woman contacted me this week and encouraged me to keep sending the sparks! I loved that! I’ll gladly be a spark for Jesus.
She shared some lyrics of an old song:
“It only takes a spark to get a fire going. And then all those around can warm up in its glowing!”
I love that too.
With autumn comes bonfires, and we know when the fire starts to wind down, it only takes a bit of stirring to get the flames roaring again. That’s how it is with our faith in Jesus. Sometimes, we need someone to stir us. Other times, we need to do the stirring. The cool thing is as Christians we each are sparks for Him.
This Little Light of Mine
Of course, this reminds me of another song, “This Little Light of Mine.” Most of us have probably sung this song at least once as we teach little ones with our finger held high.
This little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
Oh, this little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
Harold Dixon Loes wrote this gospel song back in 1920. A hundred years later, it seems there are a few versions of this children’s song, and the lyrics may have shifted some. Regardless, the biblical inspiration is evident that we are to let our lights shine.
In fact, Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) says,
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
I don’t think there is any greater inspiration than God telling us we are the light of the world. So, let’s go be a spark for Jesus!
How to Be a Spark for Jesus
How do we let our light shine? In other words, how do we be a spark for Jesus? There are unlimited ways but let me share a just few sparks I got to send today.
- Encouraging my youngest daughter as she is starting a new Bible study of Ephesians 6:10-20, The Armor of God! We follow where God is leading us.
- Encouraging this same daughter as she deals with the health of her little ones who have been sick this week.
- Listening to a friend who is struggling with a very difficult relationship and reminding her that what she is going through is not fair, but she has God and me to listen any time!
- Sending sympathies and a virtual hug to my sister-in-law whose mother passed away yesterday. I wish I lived closer to her so that I could hug her in person.
- Encouraging a coworker who has a full plate working full time and being a single mom. Planning a birthday party for a child and trying to stay sane through it all.
- Putting chicken in the crockpot this morning so that my hubby has food to eat tonight as I will be at a church gathering.
- Writing this blog post.
As you can see, these sparks are little, but it doesn’t take as much as we think it takes to bring the light of Jesus into someone’s life and day. Now there are so many other ways we can be a spark for Jesus.
- Volunteer to hold a baby so mommy can have a break.
- Put the dishes away so someone else doesn’t have to do it.
- Write a note of encouragement to someone. How about send it in the mail?
- Post on social media that you love Jesus. Be brave. Share the light on your social media.
- Buy some food for the food shelf. Or do you personally know someone who needs food? Buy it for them. We don’t have to wait for Advent to give gifts.
Grateful to be a Recipient of Sparks for Jesus
I have been the recipient of sparks since the beginning of my November New Challenge. You may not even realize how much I’ve needed your sparks to stir me. Just writing this recognition makes me cry. And now, thank you for making my makeup run down my face!
Honestly, no amount of words can express my gratitude to everyone who has reached out to me thanking me for writing again. There have been many, whether through text messages, emails, post comments, in person, or phone calls. I have been stirred by your sparks. Therefore, I know firsthand just how important it is to keep our lights shining and be sparks for Jesus. Thank you for inspiring me to keep being a spark for Jesus too.
Blessing
May we shine our lights brightly and stir the fire of others. May we receive someone else’s spark to help stir our flame for Jesus too. And may we all be sparks for Jesus.
