When do you talk to God? Do you have a designated time each day? Do you sometimes forget to talk to Him?
All day long, I’ve been talking to God. I talk to Him in between meetings, tasks, while doing tasks, as I think about doing tasks, doing dishes, showering, whenever and wherever!
This is my life. I don’t even know when I started talking to God so much, but it seems constant. Oh, I don’t just talk to God, I listen too, but I noticed today it’s all day long. And every night as I lay my head down on my pillow, the last thing I often say after I thank Him for a few things is “Talk to You in the morning, Lord.”
Does this seem strange to you?
It’s biblical. First Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) says to “pray without ceasing.” Some versions say pray continually or pray constantly. I’ve concluded that God wants us to talk to Him all day long.
Always keep on praying
The word “pray” is written over 300 times in the Bible. In my assessment that’s more evidence that our God wants to hear from us. Whether it’s to request, to praise, to listen, to search, to ask questions, to confess sin, whatever the reason. I believe the Bible is clear. Always keep on praying.
God is giving us permission to talk to Him constantly. How many humans do you know that give you that kind of permission or instruction? I don’t know any person other than God who requests me to keep on talking.
When Do You Talk to God?
No worries if you only have one designated time each day to pray or if you forget to talk to God some days. He’s still listening and watching. He’s not going anywhere. Still, He does want you to pray… a lot, as in often!
It’s November New Challenge. So, I challenge you to stop and pray. Whatever you are doing right now. Oh, wait. You are reading my blog post right now. Haha! That’s okay. Go ahead. Stop reading. Go talk to God. He’s way more important than I am.
But when you done talking to God, I’d love to know. When do you talk to God?
Power of Prayer
I believe in the power of prayer. The Bible says that “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16, NIV. That means when we, God’s people, pray, there’s power in our prayers. That’s another reason to pray constantly.
And our prayers are effective, meaning, God hears us and acts. He may not answer exactly in ways or in the timely of our choice, but He does answer. So, keep on praying.
Let’s become prayer warriors. When do we talk to God? Constantly! Let’s bombard the heavens with powerful and effective prayers all day long. Let’s let our God hear from us. He wants to. He’s instructed us to. Let’s obey.
Let’s do it! Let’s pray right now.
Prayer
Lord, Your word says, that if anyone among us is in trouble, let them pray. If anyone is happy, let them sing songs of praise. If anyone among us is sick, let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. You say, “the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” You also say, we are to confess our sins to each other and pray for each other so that we may be healed. Lord, you instruct us to pray without ceasing. May we obey You in this instruction. May our prayers be powerful and effective. In Your Name, Jesus! Amen. (The prayer of faith, James 5:13-16)
