This November New Challenge is challenging. But I’m reminded daily that God gives us strength to endure. He is our help when we are tired and challenged.
Tired and Weary Bodies and Souls
Do you ever just want to be done with the day, but you have one more task to do? You ponder if the task really needs to be done or if it can wait for another day. But you already know the answer. Yes, the task must be completed today.
How do we find the energy necessary to complete an important task at the end of the day when we don’t have much energy left?
Or how about when we are in a long battle, a trial that seems like it’s never going to end? We are tired, and we wonder if we should just give up and give in.
Where do we get the strength to complete the task, to continue with our day, and to keep holding on during hardships in life?
Maybe the question is not where, but rather Who?
God Gives Us Strength
Time and time again, I’ve personally felt like I had nothing left to give at the end of the day, but I knew I must complete a task. I remember when my children were babies, and I could barely keep my own eyes open to feed them at the end of the day, but I needed to feed my baby. They depended on me for their food. Likewise, I’ve been in long life battles that have zapped me flat, and I couldn’t imagine going on.
How did I muster up the energy to continue?
I called on God for help. God gives us strength.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29, (NIV)
It seems surreal that we can muster up energy that is not there or increase courage to continue a battle when we feel drained and weak. But when we call on God, He does exactly that for us.
When we call on God, He will answer (Zechariah 13:9). He strengthens our tired bodies and souls. When we are weak, and we reach out to Jesus, then we are strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).
I don’t know how God does it; I just know He does. Throughout my life I’ve experienced hundreds of times not having the strength to continue. Whenever I’m in this situation, I know God is faithful. When I call on Him for help, He delivers. Always!
Call Upon the Name of the Lord
If you find yourself in a similar place today, call upon the name of the Lord. He will answer. He will strengthen you.
Here are just a few Bible verses that we can go to and pray when our souls and bodies are tired, and we need strength.
- “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” (Psalm 119:28, NIV)
- “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10, NIV)
- “The Lord is my strength and my defense.” (Exodus 15:2, NIV)
- “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10, NIV)
We’ll never be without help when we call on the name of the Lord. And we will never be without strength because God gives us strength to endure.
Blessing
May we call on the name of the Lord when we are tired. May He bless us with strength through our days and through our hardships. May we remember to thank Him for His faithfulness.
