This morning’s musing came through a familiar parable in the Bible: The Healing of a Deaf and Mute Man. Some people brought a man to Jesus and begged Jesus to lay His hands on this man to heal his deafness and speech impediment. Jesus took this man away from the crowd to be alone with him.
Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then Jesus spit. Then He touched this man’s tongue. I love what comes next. Jesus looked up to heaven and spoke, “Ephphatha!” This means, “Be opened!”
The man was instantly healed. He could hear and speak. Amazing!!!
Here’s what caught my attention today. The people were “overwhelmed with amazement.” When was the last time you were overwhelmed with amazement by something Jesus did?
Sometimes I think we get so bogged down in the details of our lives we don’t look up and notice the all the things Jesus has done for us and for others. When was the last time you were completely astonished by something Jesus did?
Every. Single. Day. We have opportunities to look up, take notice, and pay attention to the amazing things being done by Jesus. We need to pay attention to what’s happening not just in our own lives, but others’ lives too.
I’m convinced we all need encouragement. I believe we need to start sharing these amazing things Jesus has done in our lives. He really does overwhelm me with amazement, and I love sharing true stories of these astonishing things.
Have you been overwhelmed by amazement by something Jesus has done recently or ever? I’d love to hear about it. Please share your stories of amazement in my comments. Let’s start encouraging one another.
Scripture:
Mark 7:37 – People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
