Have you ever woke with a burden? I can’t tell you how many days I wake up with my heart heavy laden whether for my own issues or someone else’s. I often wake with an intense heaviness. So it was today. In fact, I woke often during the night “thinking” about this issue. I knew when I was making my cup of coffee this morning that I would spend my time with Jesus in prayer. Let me share with you what He shared with me.
I have many books on prayer. I use these books to help me focus my prayers on specific topics or issues and pray specific Scripture for these problem areas whether for myself or someone else.
Recently, I received a new prayer book from a key friend of mine. This is the book I chose today to help me focus on specific prayer.
This morning, I knew in my heart I needed to lift up one of my children to God’s throne. No matter how old our children get, moms are always moms, and our hearts will always be sensitive to our children’s needs.
So I turned to a chapter that would focus on this specific area of need for my child. As I read the chapter, the author mentioned the story in John 9 where Jesus heals a man born blind. So I opened my Bible and read this story in John 9.
The disciples asked Jesus a tough question, but listen to what Jesus said in John 9:1-3:
As he [Jesus] went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
Immediately, after I read Jesus’ own words, my heart was filled with peace. I know God has a plan to display His work in my child’s life. Such peace I received from Jesus’ own words. There is a purpose for this suffering. I know He sees my child. I know He plans to display His mighty work in and through this child.
Sometimes we forget that Jesus has a plan to display His glorious work in and through us. Even if that means we have to suffer for a while. Even if that means we are sick, jobless, or have a troubled relationship.
When we seek and wait upon the Lord, He will answer. If it doesn’t seem like He is hearing you, trust me. He hears you. He sees your situation.
Whether we were born with a sickness or disability, developed a sickness or disability, have entered into a season of trouble and trials, whatever it is that’s causing us difficulty, let’s embrace the truth that the work of God is at work and in the right time Jesus will display His work in our situation.
He’s just waiting for that perfect timing where His work will be displayed, and the bigger blessing will be known to all.
So, hold on. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Jesus has a plan to see you through to the other side of whatever your troubles are.
May we all have peace today knowing one day the work of God will be displayed in us and in our lives.
