“Therefore, putting away lying, Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another” (Ephesians 4:25, NKJV). Well, God does not mess around, does He? He’s starting our 40-day journey of intentional living with a bang!
Stop lying. Speak truth!
BOOM!
Just for today, let’s be full of integrity and live with love as we speak truth to one another. Furthermore, we need to stop lying not just to others, but to ourselves too. I looked up today’s Scripture in a number of versions, and I like how The Message tells us how to live this biblical command:
What this adds up to, then, is this: no more lies, no more pretense. Tell your neighbor the truth. In Christ’s body we’re all connected to each other, after all. When you lie to others, you end up lying to yourself.
Doesn’t get any clearer than that, does it?
We need to be honest and truthful with each other and ourselves.
So, for today, let’s be productive in speaking truth, to our family, maybe a spouse or child, a friend. No little white lies. No sugar coating our talk. Let’s be honest. No insincerity.
But I want you to be kind when speaking the truth. You don’t have to mean spirited.
At the end of this day, I hope to be able to say, I spoke the truth in kindness and patience, not with a pretense to protect someone’s heart or my own heart.
Let’s see how this goes for us today.
Just For Today
Refrain from lying. Embrace speaking the truth!
