Good Morning My Friends! For a while now, I’ve been studying the book of Titus in the Bible. It’s only three chapters long, but it’s packed with practical ways of living. I feel drawn to share with you today the verse that popped off the page for me.
Living Goodness, Not Wrongdoing
“Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives” (Titus 3:14, NIV).
Do what is good. Why? So that we can both provide for the needs of others and not live unproductive lives. Another both/and kind-of-thing, wouldn’t you say?
This is about our character actually. Doing what is good is a reflection of the goodness in our hearts.
Goodness is an upright and commendable characteristic.
It’s flavorful and beneficial to others. It’s of the highest quality.
God wants us to complement our faith with good character.
Have you ever complemented your food with salt? It enhances the flavor. It’s beneficial to your food. And if you’re serving this food to others, how much more will they enjoy it and be blessed?
If we live in a way that’s beneficial to others, then we are devoting ourselves to doing what is good.
Wrongdoing is contrary to goodness. When someone does wrong, he or she inflicts harm on another.
God’s Word says, that “all wrongdoing is sin” (I John 5:17). He instructs us to
“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning” (1 Corinthians 15:34, NIV).
I’m not going to provide a long list of sins today. Rather, I’m strongly encouraging you to focus on goodness today.
“Make every effort to add to your faith goodness” (2 Peter 1:5, NIV).
Doing what is good should be our intent today. How can you add flavor to someone’s life today? How can you benefit someone else today?
If there are other humans you come in contact with today, shake some salt in their direction and see how productive your life is today.
Just for Today
Refrain from Wrongdoing. Embrace Goodness.
